Nigeria Schoolgirls Abduction: Mother Identifies Daughter in the Latest Boko Haram Video

Mother of an abducted Nigerian schoolgirl identified her daughter in the latest video by the militant group Boko Haram.

A school leader in Chibok village from where at least 200 girls were kidnapped April 14, said that the mother saw the video on television Tuesday, and identified her.

Dumoma Mpur, the chairman of the Government Girls Secondary School parent-teachers association, said that the community was concerned that despite the international attention and concern about the incident they had "not seen a single soldier in Chibok yet."

"The video got parents apprehensive again after watching it but the various steps taken by the governments and the coming of the foreign troops is boosting our spirit," Mpur told Reuters.

In the video, around 100 girls are seen wearing hijab and reciting Quran. Two of the kidnapped Christian girls said that they were converted to Islam.

Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau addressed the authorities through the video. He demanded the release of his imprisoned group members in exchange for the captive schoolgirls.

"It is now four years or five years that you arrested our brethren and they are still in your prison. You are doing many things (to them). And now you are talking about these girls. We will never release them until after you release our brethren," Shekau said in the video, reports Sky NEWS.

But, a father of two abducted schoolgirls said that the Nigerian authorities should find a better way to release the girls rather than falling for the group's offer. He told the news channel that meeting Boko Haram's demand will only encourage them to carry out more such activities.

The incident attracted the attention of the international community. The U.S. officials said Monday night that they have deployed a manned aircrafts to search the remote forest area for the missing girls. "We have shared commercial satellite imagery with the Nigerians and are flying manned ISR (intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) assets over Nigeria with the government's permission," a Washington spokesperson said.

David Cameron, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom said that the country is checking the video footage against their intelligence reports in order to find out the location where it was shot.
