Reprising her role as the face of Calvin Klein, model Christy Turlington posed with her husband for the brand's latest fragrance ad campaign.
Christy Turlington, the supermodel and wife of Edward Burns became a household name when she first bagged the role of the face of Calvin Klein's fragrance line 'Eternity' in 1988. Now, 26 years later, it is déjà vu. The 45-year-old actress has reprised her role as the face of the brand. If that's not enough reason to check out the new Eternity advertisement campaign, there's more! The campaign has the very stunning model posing with her handsome husband.
Judging from the newly released pictures of the photo shoot, it seems time has stood still for Turlington. Her timeless beauty continues to leave fans and fashion critiques spell-bound.
One image shows the handsome couple sprawled on a sandy beach. Turlington shows off her perfect figure as she lays atop her husband, gazing into the camera. Her husband is seen kissing her affectionately on the forehead. Another picture shows the couple engaged in a passionate embrace as they stare intensely into the camera lens.
Even though both remain very successful in their own careers, this is the first time the couple has shot an ad together.
"We continue to joke about [the shoot] because it's much easier to do something like this with someone you know so well and that you're intimate with in real life, but on the other hand, it's also funny to be intimate with your life partner and have people around," Turlington told WWD. "In the beginning we were pretty giggly. And after the first day, he said to me, 'I'm so glad you're not doing this with somebody else.' I said, 'I wouldn't be doing this with someone else.' Usually you pretend to be intimate on these types of campaigns, and when they go to change a lens or the roll of film is complete, you're like, 'So, how about those Mets?' It's just awkward."
Even though Turlington remained the face of the brand's fragrance line till 2007, her most iconic photo shoot for 'Eternity' came only in 1995. Last month, the actress gave her fans an opportunity to revisit those glorious days by posting a picture of that photo shoot on Instagram.
Turlington is also the founder of the maternal health advocacy campaign "Every Mother Counts." As a welcome back gift, Calvin Klein has announced that it will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from the U.S. sales of Eternity Calvin Klein's 25th Anniversary Edition bottles for one week (starting May 30, 2014) to the charity, according to E! Online.
Turlington has been quite prominent in the fashion industry and partnered in various business ventures. She is a partner of Sundar, an ayurvedic skincare line and handles production of two PUMA clothing lines.
Very recently, she also featured in Time magazine's 100 most influential people. Melinda Gates, wife of Microsoft founder Bill Gates, penned the accompanying tribute essay.
"Christy's second act is her tenacious fight against maternal mortality," Gates wrote. "After the birth of her first child, she suffered postpartum hemorrhage.... In developing countries, it can be deadly. Christy's realization that her life and her baby's turned on the luck of geography inspired her to take action. She made the documentary 'No Woman, No Cry' to raise awareness of maternal mortality. Then she founded Every Mother Counts, which provides health education, medicine and emergency care in poor countries."
Calvin Klein has a wide range of perfumes and colognes including Obsession and Eternity. The brand's commercials are usually said to be very controversial and many of them have been banned. One of the most controversial commercials included a jeans ad where a fifteen-year-old Brooke Shields is shown saying "Do you want to know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing!"
The 1995 ad campaign shot by Steven Meisel was one of the most controversial in the brand's history. The ad, which featured models in what seemed like a wood-paneled basement, received tons of backlash. Parent groups, child welfare authorities, leads of the Catholic League, and the American Family Association felt that the images looked like child porn.
Despite this, the brand has been instrumental in launching and shaping the careers of many A-list celebrities, including Mark Wahlberg, Antonio Sabato Jr. and Kate Moss. Calvin Klein was also responsible for giving Moss another opportunity to revive her modeling career in 2002 after cocaine allegations threatened to ruin her career.
The new 'Eternity' ad campaign starring Turlington and Burns was shot by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin in beautiful Turks and Caicos and will hit print and televisions in June.
