2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Boasts Latest Engineering and Technology In Luxury Car Market

The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class is all about luxury and perfection with the latest technology engineered into the full-size luxury sedan.

Mercedes-Benz unveiled its latest S-Class luxury sedan during a media presentation Wednesday in Hamburg, Germany. With some latest additions to the S-Class, Mercedes-Benz has brought in a new smart driving experience. The suspension system will now come with sensors, the car lights will all be LEDs and new driver alerts have been added to upgrade the safety features.

For the first time, the S-Class will have LEDs instead of incandescent for headlights, taillights and the interiors. It's equipped with 56 LED lights in each head light, 25 in each taillight and nearly 300 LEDs to light up the interiors, according to USA Today. These LEDs automatically adjust their brightness.

Another smart innovation in the latest S-Class is its suspension. The new suspension system includes sensors, which detect any road bumps or potholes and automatically adjust the suspension to tackle it. This is yet again a first for the Mercedes-Benz, not yet seen in any of its predecessors. It has cameras, which keep a 360 degree view of the road and work with sensors to provide better safety.

There are myriad speeding alerts added to this vehicle. A drowsy driver is alerted to forthcoming dangers and the steering adjusts automatically too. Warning alerts are given to the driver if there are any speeding vehicles approaching.

This may be a chance for Mercedes to regain its customers from the discontinued Maybach superpremium line. The new S-Class will be seen at least in five different configurations, short-wheelbase sedan, long-wheelbase sedan, extra-long wheelbase sedan, coupe and cabriolet. It will be manufactured in four different variants including traditional gasoline, gasoline electric, diesel and diesel electric.

The S550 rear-wheel-drive sedan, which boasts a 455-horsepower V8 engine, is likely to go on sale in September, while an all-wheel-drive version and a high-performance S63 AMG model, powered by a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 engine, goes on sale in November. Mercedes-Benz aims to release S600 packed with twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V12 in 2015 models.

The price for the Mercedes-Benz S550 was not disclosed during the inauguration, but with the features packed in it, it is likely to rank among one of the most expensive sedans in the market.
