Pinterest Updates Mobile App with Guided Search Tool

Pinterest recently launched a new feature, the Guided Search, to give users a better way to search some-30 billion pins on their site.

"To help you find the best ideas, today we're introducing Guided Search. It's made for exploring, whether you know exactly what you want, or you're just starting to look around," wrote Hui Xu, Head of Discovery Team, in a blog post.

The new search feature lets users add specific filters to the original search keyword term. For example, if a user searched for "coffee", Pinterest would instantly provide relevant tags such as, "coffee shops," "gluten-free," and "coffee beans". Similarly, those searching for the keyword, "makeup" might then see related search terms like "wedding," "DIY makeup," and "casual". The user can add and remove as many filters depending on his or her preference.

Pinterest CEO Ben Silbermann, as quoted by Mashable, stated that the new addition helps users find the most helpful and relevant content. He also explained that a guided search will make for a better search experience. Pinterest has now over 750 million boards and around 30 billion pins. These numbers have reportedly increased by 50 percent in the last six months.

Mobile users are free to peruse Guided Search, but the feature is not yet available for desktop devices. Downloads for the update are already available for Android and iOS devices.

Pinterest has unveiled more categories to help their users sort the content that they see within the website. New classifications will also be offered to a user based on the pins that he or she has recently created or tagged. For example, if a user has been recently tagged into a pin about weddings, he or she might receive invites to check out other categories related to "wedding".
