Gang-Related Shooting At Federal Courthouse In Salt Lake City Leaves 1 Injured

A shooting outside of a federal courthouse in Salt Lake City, Utah left at least one person injured on Monday, FoxNews.com reported.

Melodie Rydalch, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's Office, said the shooting was related to the trial of Siale Angilau, an alleged gang member in the Tongan Crips, for racketeering.

A U.S. Marshal allegedly told Portia Louder -- who was inside at the time of the incident -- that a defedant attempted to stab a witness with a pen, who was then shot by the marshal.

Police were called to the courthouse around 9:45 a.m. A report in the Salt Lake Tribune said witnesses saw someone being carried out on a stretcher.

During a press conference, officials said the marshal shot the defendant multiple times in the chest but did not disclose the extent of his injuries, according to KUTV.

The trial was being conducted in U.S. District Judge Tena Campbell's courtroom.

Witnesses are being kept inside the court for questioning.

Further details about the incident were not immediately available.

In February, a gunman was fatally shot outside of Brevard County Courthouse in Florida.

The armed man was discovered on the street outside of the court around 10 a.m. Police attempted negotiating with him for two hours before authorities opened fire at him.

He reportedly had an outburst outside of the court, where jurors were being selected for the trial of Brandon Bradley, accused of killing a police officer in 2012.
