Dominique Ansel bakery is offering free Cronuts and Cookie Shots at various pop-up locations in New York City on Friday.
The famed eatery best known for its hybrid pastries will be giving away complimentary goodies at a series of secret locations throughout Manhattan until 5 p.m., according to Gothamist.
Ansel's head baker started posting the various spots on the company's Instagram and Twitter pages at about 10:30 in the morning. It appears residents of the Flatiron district, Chinatown and Union Square will be the first lucky recipients of the gratis pastries.
Consumers can participate in the scavenger hunt for the next location via Ansel's social media platforms.
The offering is reportedly a promotion for the bake shop's upcoming cookbook, "Dominique Ansel: The Secret Recipes."
But the giveaway won't hurt from a public relations standpoint. The New York City bakery recently encountered backlash and drama, after a video of a mouse inside Dominique Ansel prompted a temporary shutdown.
A Health Department spokesperson said the establishment was closed because of a "severe mouse infestation that requires professional pest control services."
Officials said they first learned of the situation at the bakery when a video titled, "Dominique Ansel's Pet Mouse" was posted on YouTube. In the footage, a small rodent can be seen running around the eatery's hardwood floor, close to racks of baked goods.
"At the home of the Cronut," the description reads. "So cute!!"
The bakery responded with a public statement.
"As a small, one-shop bakery, we often feel like we're being looked at under a tremendous microscope," the release read. "A lot of times, people don't see the larger ramifications of their actions and how a tiny video of a mouse running across the screen for three seconds can cause harm and damages to an honest, small business."
Upon reopening a couple days after the mouse fiasco, the bakery concocted a new flavor for customers: the black-and-gold "Rocky" Cronut.
