Northern California law enforcement officials found the body of a missing Marin woman who reportedly fell 50 feet down a mountainside drainage area in Mount Tamalpais State Park on Thursday.
The 50-year-old woman, who has not yet been identified, was found just five days after police recovered the remains of another missing hiker, according to the Associated Press.
Marin County sheriff's Lt. Doug Pittman said rescue teams found the body of a woman that matched the description of a seasoned Mill Valley hiker who disappeared after entering Mount Tamalpais on Wednesday night.
Crews discovered the woman's body at around 4:45 p.m., about two hours after her father reported her missing at the Mountain Home Inn, located around one mile east of Pantoll Ranger Station, SF Gate reported.
After an initial investigation of the immediate area where the woman's body was found, it appeared the victim fell between 40 and 50 feet, plunging into a drainage area by the mountain.
"She was located in a very steep and treacherous drainage," Pittman said on Thursday.
The woman reportedly went on a hike with a partner on Wednesday night who decided to sleep on the mountain through the evening. But the deceased decided to return to her car instead, and never made it back to camp.
Her father called officials after finding her vehicle in a parking lot.
This is the second case of a missing woman found dead in the park in the past week, according to the SF Gate.
Authorities found the remains of 33-year-old Magdalena Glinkowski, a Menlo Park woman who went missing last month.
Park rangers first took note of the missing woman when they discovered an abandoned car left in a parking lot called "Bootjack" close to the Pantoll Campsite on Mount Tamalpais.
Glinkowski was found on April 12 on a steep slope near a drainage area close to the location where authorities discovered the second woman's body.
