Sony unveils new Android Smartphone, Xperia ZR, with more advanced features; 4.6-inches HD display and highest water level resistance.
Sony announced the launch of the new Xperia ZR Monday, an addition to its Xperia series of smartphones. The Xperia ZR looks almost similar to its predecessor, Xperia Z, but has a slightly smaller screen. Additional feature is that the phone is waterproof and can withstand 5 feet depth for 30 minutes.
But there is a catch here. Sony clearly mentions that it is resistant only under fresh water conditions, so one might want to think twice before going ocean diving with the phone. Besides its water resistance feature, Xperia ZR also boasts a fast-capture camera with 13-megapixels, 16x digital zoom with auto-focus and LED flash. The phone can record videos and capture photos with stunning picture quality underwater, courtesy Exmor RS image sensor.
"The Xperia ZR pushes the boundaries on where and how consumers can use the full potential of their smartphone. By combining Sony's leading camera technology with the highest level of water-resistance, you will never miss another moment," Calum MacDougall, director of Xperia marketing at Sony Mobile Communications, said in a press release. "Bringing together the best of Sony's leading technology, media applications and easy one-touch connectivity with the largest ever range of NFC-enabled accessories, the Xperia ZR delivers the unique smartphone experience that people can expect from Sony."
Listed below are the key features of Sony Xperia ZR:
Display: 4.6-inches 720x1280 HD Reality Display
Processor: 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 quad-core processor
RAM: 2 GB
Storage: 8 GB internal storage, expandable up to 32 GB via microSD slot
Camera: 13-megapixel Exmor RS autofocus rear camera with LED flash and VGA front-facing camera
Operating System: Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2.
Additional features included in the Xperia ZR are as follows:
OptiContrast Panel On Display:
The OptiContrast panel used for the 4.6-inch display is derived from the Sony's range of BRAVIA TV's contrast enhancement technology. This additional feature eliminates the screen reflections giving a clear picture viewing experience, even in bright sunlight. Screen touch response is enhanced with the sensor placed on the lens.
Entertainment via "WALKMAN":
WALKMAN application offers a wide range of albums and movies through a single access point. Music Unlimited gives users access to endless list of over 20 million songs to choose from. Similarly, Video Unlimited offers over 150,000 movies and TV series. Moreover, Face recognition in the photo albums gives an option to tag friends from contact list.
Battery Stamina Mode:
Sony uses the Battery Stamina Mode in its Xperia ZR, which boosts the phone's batter by up to four times or more by shutting down apps in the background when the screen is locked and resumes them when screen is back on.
One-Touch Sharing:
One-touch sharing gives an easy sharing experience from Xperia ZR to any NFC-enabled Sony device. Users can share photos, videos and songs to speakers, headphones and TVs.
The launch date has not been confirmed as yet, but Sony will launch its Xperia ZR in the second quarter of 2013. The price will be confirmed before the release.
