Man Arrested For Watching Porn On City Sidewalk As Children Walked By

Police arrested a man who was "recklessly creating a risk" when he watched a pornographic film on a New York City sidewalk.

Rudolph Campbell was watching the XXX movie on a portable DVD player while standing on West 130th Street near Lenox Avenue on March 31, police told the New York Daily News. The porno, titled "Extreme A---s #18," could be seen by parents and children as it played on a nearby stoop.

William Butler, the officer who arrested Campbell, wrote in his report the obscene images "obstructed vehicular and pedestrian traffic," according to the Daily News.

"I observed that the defendant was standing directly in the middle of the sidewalk without moving, and that multiple people, including at least three small children, had to walk around him in order to continue walking down the sidewalk," Butler wrote.

Campbell, who reportedly lives in a Brooklyn homeless shelter, appeared in Manhattan Criminal Court last week.

Judge Bruna DiBiase asked Campbell if he showed "visual representation of a person or a portion of the human body that predominantly appeals to the prurient interest in sex and simulated sexual conduct" to cause "alarm to the public?" the newspaper reported.

"I would have to say yes," Campbell replied, "only being the tape was a video. Yes," the Daily News reported.

The owner of the stoop the porno was playing on told police he had no idea who Campbell was.

"I didn't know him," Richie Williamson, an award-winning documentary film editor, told the newspaper. "I've lived here since 2006 and never experienced anything like this. You can't tolerate that stuff."

Campbell, who has over 30 previous arrests, pleaded guilty to public display of offensive sexual material. He was released with time served.

Campbell also served two prison terms, one for cocaine possession in 1991, according to the Daily News.
