Rocksteady has released the first image of the Batmobile's new ejection ability for the upcoming "Batman: Arkham Knight" title.
The image shows the Caped Crusader in mid air as the car remains underneath him. Dax Ginn, the ebullient marketing producer for the Arkham series' lead development studio Rocksteady, explained the new ejection ability during a recent interview with Kotaku.
"I think there are a lot of driving games where we could have kind of borrowed gameplay mechanics just because they're easy," Ginn told Kotaku. "For us, the focus was: 'What's the Batmobile all about? How do we make the experience feel really unique?' And so destruction is a big part of that-the power and speed of driving the Batmobile."
The goal of the developers was to make the Batmobile driving experience to be more than just a "driving mode." Rocksteady wanted the Batmobile to be a function and an important tool during gameplay.
"So the integration that you saw between the functionality of the Batmobile and the abilities of Batman himself was really important to us, and we developed them early on," Ginn said. "So [we have] the ejection-being able to use the speed of the Batmobile and translate that into Batman's movement and then calling the Batmobile back in-kind of splitting them up and then reuniting them in a seamless way."
Ginn's comments to Kotaku reiterate Sefton Hill's, game director at Rocksteady Studios, blog post about "Batman: Arkham Knight" explaining the development process for the Batmobile.
"...We made the decision early in development that to truly feel the power of the Batmobile, this car needed to be unstoppable," Hill wrote on Sony's PlayStation's official blog. "It changed the way we designed and built the game from that point forward. Nothing should stop the Batmobile. If you want to stick to an open road then that is your choice, but if you want to take a shortcut through a pillar, wall or statue then that's fine too!"
"Batman: Arkham Knight" will be released on Oct. 14.
