The Malaysian defense minister has landed himself into more trouble after he responded in the affirmative to a tweet contemplating the tragedy of missing MH370 flight being a "blessing in disguise," UK MailOnline reported.
Hishammuddin Hussein has caused outrage in his latest series of blunders during the continuing month-long international search of the missing Boeing 777.
Ismail Amsyar, a Kuala Lampur-based journalist, tweeted the defense minister on Wednesday, saying, "MH370 is a blessing in disguise for all of us. I understand now the beauty of unity, the sweetness of having each other."
According to UK MailOnline, in a response which has caused international uproar, Hussein said, "Right u are :)"
The tweet, which has since been deleted, was slammed by outraged Twitter users for being insensitive and "inappropriate."
As families continue to fight for information on the disappearance of Malaysia airliner, Hussein has been excessively criticized for not stopping two Iranians from boarding the plane with stolen passports and withholding information from relatives, UK MailOnline reported.
Receiving death threats for instigating the "inappropriate" comments, Amsyar was also targeted by many people. He later apologized "from the bottom of [his] heart" for the comment.
However, no comment or apology has been made by Hussein on the incident, UK MailOnline reported.
"It is widely believed the controversy over MH370 has scuppered his chances of succeeding his cousin, Malaysia's prime minister, as leader of the ruling party - with some claiming it has tarnished his entire political career," UK MailOnline reported. "He came under fire when once asked to defend the 'disorderly' plane search, he retorted, 'It's only confusion if you want it to be seen to be confusion.'"
But when the same question was posed to Hussein some days later, he attacked journalists for being "irresponsible" about making the allegation.
"I have got a lot of feedback saying we have been very responsible in our action. It's very irresponsible of you to say that," he said.
