A dive team discovered a weapon in a Texas lake used in the fatal shooting of a prosecutor last year, ABC News reported.

Authorities announced the find on Wednesday, though they found the gun -- linked to the January 2013 courthouse killing of Assitant District Attorney Mark Hasse -- earlier this year.

"Affiant has learned that recent forensic testing of this Ruger pistol has revealed that this pistol was the same pistol from which that bullets that killed Mark Hasse were fired," the affidavit states.

A law enforcement official said two guns, concealed inside of a black mask, were found in Lake Tawakoni, located about 50 miles east of Dallas.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity as he was was not authorized to speak publicly on the case.

Two months after Hasse was murdered, District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife, Cynthia, were found fatally shot inside their home.

Former county Justice of the Peace Eric Williams and his wife, Kim, are facing capital murder charges in the all three deaths. Both are scheduled for trial later this year.

Investigators believe Williams had a grudge against Hasse and McLelland for successfully prosecuting him for stealing three county-owned computer monitors -- costing him his job and law license.

Though authorities found several weapons in Williams' possession, none of them were linked to the murders.

Special Prosecutors Bill Wirskye and Toby Shook are seeking the death penalty for Williams, but they haven't said if they will for his wife Kim, according to KHOU.

The Department of Public Safety would not comment to the AP about the case.
