Penn. Mother, Laurel Michelle Schlemmer, Claims 'Crazy Voices' Told Her To Drown Kids

A woman in Pennsylvania was arrested on Tuesday after she tried to drown two of her sons, the New York Daily News reported.

Laurel Michelle Schlemmer, 40, of McCandless, called 911 and told authorities she just pulled her sons from the bathtub -- leaving her 3-year-old son dead and her 6-year-old son seriously injured.

Schlemmer allegedly told Allegheny County authorities that she ordered the two children to take off their pajamas and get into the tub after putting her 7-year-old son on the school bus around 8:40 a.m.

"Schlemmer said after the boys got into the tub she got into the tub 'fully clothed' and 'crazy voices' were telling her to push the boys into the water," the criminal complaint said. "Schlemmer explained that at one point she (was) sitting on top of the boys while they were under the water in the tub."

According to court documents, Schlemmer told investigators she believed "she could be a better mother" to her oldest child "if the other two boys weren't around."

She also said the boys "would be better off in heaven."

Before police and first responders arrived, Schlemmer attempted to hide her wet clothes in a trash bag. She also told officers she didn't attempt CPR on her kids because she doesn't know to do perform it.

Both boys were rushed to UPMC Passavant Hospital, where Luke, 3, was pronounced dead. The older boy was transported to a pediatric intensive care unit at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, where he remained in critical condition on Wednesday.

Neighbors expressed their shock to reporters after hearing that Schlemmer killed one of her sons.

"I said hello to her and she seemed fine," Jennie Leonard, who saw Schlemmer at the bus stop before the incident, told WPXI-TV.

"When the kids got on the bus, everybody waved as we always do."
