A Michigan man is on trial for murdering his sister almost 30 years ago to cover up their incestuous relationship, the New York Daily News reported.
Ryan Wyngarden, 51, is accused of killing his sister, Gail Brink, and her husband, Rick Brink, to prevent exposure of the incestuous relationship he had with his sister when they were children. Gail Brink, 22, and her husband were found shot dead in their home in Park Township in 1987.
Prosecutors say Wyngarden was also jealous of his sister's relationship with her husband, whom she recently married, the Daily News reported.
Wyngarden was never arrested for the murder until January 2013 after his wife, Pam Wyngarden, told police he told her about what he did. His wife said her husband also led her to where the bodies were, MLive.com reported.
Wyngarden also allegedly confessed to police in October 2012 that he had inappropriate encounters with his sister when he was 12 and she was 9, MLive.com reported.
"It's not something that I would just volunteer," the defendant told the court on Wednesday, according to the Daily News . "But it's not something I was that concerned about either."
The siblings had a total of three encounters of a sexual nature. The first time was when the two were in a room, naked and "comparing body parts" when their mother caught them, the defendant said during his testimony on Thursday, MLive.com reported.
"There was nothing sexual about it," he said.
Wyngarden said the two other incidents never involved intercourse, and that they just "groped on each other" and "touched genitals."
But Wyngarden also wrote 29 letters insisting that his wife is telling lies about him, and that the police are trying to manipulate her, MLive.com reported. He wanted to stop his wife from testifying against him.
"I am beyond belief that Pam sticks to this lie, but I truly believe God's light will bring the truth," Wyndargen wrote in one of the letters .
The trial, which was in its tenth day of testimony on Thursday, could possibly go to the jury on Friday, according to the Daily News.
