A college in upstate New York is offering a summer course on Miley Cyrus and won't even make students do any class twerk, according to The Saratogian.
The Miley Cyrus course will be offered by Skidmore College, whose slogan is "Creative thought matters," a private liberal arts college in Saratoga Springs, The Saratogian reported.
The course is being offered as an innovative course beginning this summer starring Miley Cyrus and all her incarnations as a way to study sociology, according to The Saratogian.
Visiting Assistant Professor Carolyn Chernoff calls the course "The Sociology of Miley Cyrus: Race, Class, Gender and Media," according to The Saratogian.
Chernoff says she'll focus on the 21-year-old performer and all her incarnations as a way to study such topics as gender, race, class, fame and power, The Saratogian reported. She says she got the idea after teaching a course on youth culture that featured video of Cyrus twerking at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.
Chernoff is interested in cities, arts, and social change, particularly on the level of social interaction and the production of "community," according to her Skidmore profile page.
"I investigate the role of culture in reproducing and transforming social inequality, and research conflict around diversity and difference," Chernoff wrote on her page. "As a long-time cultural worker and activist, I have worked with many women's cultural organizations on issues of violence prevention, self-expression, and arts and culture.
Chernoff has taught courses in education and in sociology at Penn, Moore College of Art and Design, and Ursinus College, BuzzFeed.com reported.
