Smyrna Bomb Threat Confirmed as Hoax: Delaware Police Give All Clear for School District

A bomb threat that caused an entire Delaware school district to be evacuated has been identified as a hoax.

Authorities shut down all educational facilities in the Smyrna School District on Tuesday morning, after two unspecified bomb threats were called into the district's main office, ABC's local station WPVI reported.

Ttudents from the eight schools in Smyrna's district, along with Providence Creek Academy in Clayton, were sent home on Tuesday.

Police traveled to each school's campus with bomb-detecting canines to investigate the threats.

Following several hours of thorough search, officials deemed all buildings on the schools' campuses safe. Police confirmed the all clear after announcing they hadn't found any suspicious items nearby.

Classes are slated to recommence on Wednesday, WPVI reported.

Parents rushed to their children's schools after they heard word of the bomb threat.

Parent Denise Bloomer expressed anxiety and fear to WPVI reporters.

"When I got here, it was chaos," she said. "There were cars lined all up and down the street and I was told to park, wait in line and wait for my kid."

Bloomer told WPVI she waited almost a half hour before finally picking up her child.

Three of the schools evacuated are located in Clayton, while the other six are in Smyrna.
