East Coast Winter Snow Storm Forecast: Everything You Need to Know for Tuesday's Atlantic Blast

New Yorkers: prepare for another bout of snowfall this week.

East Coast meteorologists predict an Atlantic winter storm will hit the New York area briefly on Tuesday, before launching heavy snow and high winds to the coastal regions of Cape Cod, then up toward Nova Scotia.

According to a report by Bloomberg Businessweek, cities from Philadelphia to NYC will see between one and two inches of snow beginning early Tuesday morning. Eastern Long Island, Boston and Massachusetts' coastal areas will receive more - up to six inches, according to the National Weather Service.

A special weather release publicized by Environment Canada stated Nova Scotia could get around 10 inches of snow. Cape Cod officials have also issued a blizzard watch warning.

"The confidence is getting pretty solid that the track is going to be far off shore," Upton, New York weather service representative Tim Morrin told Businessweek. "There will be some impact for the New York area, but not a substantial impact. It will be more of a nuisance. For the most part, it would be a glancing blow."

But according to AccuWeather, Inc. meteorologist Frank Strait, who spoke to Bloomberg from headquarters in State College, Penn., this storm could be one of the most powerful coastal blows this year.

"I've been saying all day, Old Man Winter is coming back in town and he's picking a fight," Strait stated.

Residents should expect winds up to 70 miles per hour, snow, and waves in the ocean up to 40 feet high. As the storm moves northeast, the winds and snowfall will increase.

"For the Atlantic, it will be like a white hurricane," Hometown Forecast Services official Rob Carollan in New Hampshire told Businessweek. "A big part of the western Atlantic will be covered by blizzard conditions."

New York's snow won't stick to the ground when it first begins falling Tuesday afternoon. The snow should taper off after midnight, Carolan added.

A blizzard watch for Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket, has been put in place for Tuesday night, and will last through Wednesday. Officials suggest residents of the area avoid travel, in light of high winds and potentially heavy snow.
