The sentencing portion of Jodi Arias' retrial will be pushed back once more - this time, the convicted Arizona woman will take the stand in September.
According to the Associated Press, an Arizona judge scheduled jury selection for Arias' case to start on Sept. 8. Arias was not in attendance for the announcement.
33-year-old Arias was found guilty of first-degree murder for the death of former lover Travis Alexander, but the sentencing phase of her trial has remained in limbo after a jury couldn't come to a unanimous decision for her penalty.
The prosecution was pushing for the death sentence, while Arias' legal team tried for life in prison. Since then, Arias has been behind bars, biding her time.
Despite her incarceration, Arias, who reportedly slit Alexander's throat, shot him in the head and stabbed him multiple times, has been relatively active on social media. She's advertised fundraising pushes in the past to help pay for her legal fees, including the sale of her original art and wristbands she calls "Jodibands."
The Associated Press reported that under state law, prosecutors can seek out a new panel for a second penalty phase to ensure that Arias will be put to death. But if that second jury cannot come to a decision, the death penalty option will be taken off the table.
Maricopa Superior Judge Sherry Stephens originally scheduled Arias' retrial phase for Monday, but a scheduling conflict with a member of the prosecution led the presiding justice to postpone the hearing.
Stephens denied a motion last month that argued allowing another penalty trial in Arizona was unconstitutional. She also struck down a previous request from Arias' camp asking for lead attorney Krik Nurmi to be fired from her legal team.
In her 12-page handwritten request, Arias accused Nurmi of having an "utter poverty of people skills," while demonstrating "little to no tolerance for my emotional and psychological shortcomings."
