Florida Man Arrested After Brawl With UF Football Player Ends in Open Fire

A 23-year-old Florida man was arrested this weekend, after a brawl with a member of the University of Florida football team broke out.

According to the Gainesville Sun, the fight ended with a man opening fire on an automobile.

UF wide receiver Andre Debose was eating a meal with three other people, including John Mark Honeycutt, on Saturday. A police report submitted by officials in Gainesville stated the four were inside Honecutt's residence that night when an argument suddenly occured.

23-year-old Debose reportedly began fighting with 24-year-old Victor Watkins, and the altercation escalated quickly. Watkins pushed Debose into a window of Honeycutt's home, which subsequently shattered. Law enforcement officials told the Gainesville Sun that Debose didn't sustain any injuries from contact with the glass.

The police report then stated that Honeycutt grabbed a gun from his house, after reportedly saying to someone in the group, "Watch this, I'm about to scare him."

Honeycutt went outside, and used his firearm to threaten Watkins. According to the Gainesville Sun, he then pointed his gun toward the ground and shot a few rounds into the ground.

Watkins then reportedly threw a punch, hitting Honeycutt squarely in the face. Honeycutt dropped his handgun, which Wakins then grabbed and also shot several rounds into the front yard of the house.

Honeycutt informed law enforcement officials later on that he wanted to scare Watkins off of his propert.

Police found bullet holes in the car parked nearby. They arrested Honeycutt for aggravated assault, then booked him in Alachua County Jail on Saturday night. He was let out at about 3 p.m., Sunday afternoon.
