The parents of George Zimmerman have filed suit against comedian Roseanne Barr for posting a tweet of their home address.
According to Robert and Gladys Zimmerman, Barr's actions forced the family into hiding for years, CNN reported.
The Zimmermans are suing the comedian and actress for reportedly tweeting "an open and obvious call for vigilante justice," in hopes that "a lynch mob" would "descend" upon their house in Lake Mary, Fla.
The initial complaint stated that Robert and Gladys were overrun by hordes of angry members of the public and media.
"It was foreseeable that the tweets would cause Robert and Gladys Zimmerman to have to flee their house in the middle of the night and never to be able to return, have to face a descent of media and others who would seek to do harm to Robert and Gladys Zimmerman and to their home, and have to live in seclusion to protect their personal and emotional well-being," the civil accusation read.
Barr has been accused of "intentional infliction of emotional distress" along with "invasion of privacy" for her March 29, 2012 tweet.
It's still unclear just how much the Zimmermans are asking for in damages, CNN reported.
Barr posted the tweet one month after 30-year-old George Zimmerman shot and killed unarmed teen Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Fla. Zimmerman's subsequent acquittal of all charges led to a wave of backlash that split the nation between supporters of the state's "Stand Your Ground" laws and those calling for the Sanford resident's immediate arrest.
Barr's tweet gave Zimmerman's parent's names, addresses and phone numbers, despite the fact that they were "in no way involved in any of the incidents occurring on February 26, 2012."
"At first I thought it was good to let ppl know that no one can hide anymore ... If Zimmerman isn't arrested I'll rt his address again - maybe go 2 his house myself," Barr reportedly tweeted.
The lawsuit maintains that Barr violated Twitter's rules against posting tweets with unapproved personal information.
"Roseanne Barr acted extremely and outrageously in making the tweets, which were intended to cause severe emotional distress to Robert and Gladys Zimmerman," the lawsuit read.
No word on the suit from Barr's camp just yet, CNN reported.
