A group of students at Tenino High School played Justin Bieber's song "Baby" over the loudspeakers on repeat until they raised $500 for orphans in Ghana, Today.com reported.
They didn't play the song during classes, but they did constantly play it during passing periods and lunch, according to Today.com.
"We decided that playing one song over and over would be more annoying to really get it stuck in their head," student government president Conner Stakelin,17, told TODAY.com. "We considered it motivation for them to donate."
Student leadership played Bieber's hit "Baby" throughout the day to raise money for their sister school Crossover International Academy in Ghana, which provides education for more than 254 orphaned students, according to Today.com.
The charitable extortion worked well as the group raised nearly double their goal, Today.com reported. Students rushed to contribute in an effort to make the music stop.
The music finally stopped Tuesday afternoon, when they reached their $500 goal, according to Today.com. Two students donated over $100 each, and community members helped out. Even a local radio station featured the high school on air and donated $500. Altogether, the students raised more than $1,000.
The student council group that arranged the fundraiser said that since they reached their goal, they will no longer play the music, according to Today.com. However, they do plan on continuing to raise money until they reach $1,200 which would provide food and school necessities to the orphans through April.
