Drexel Student, Stephanie Ross, Found Dead In Sorority House; Meningitis Suspected

A student at Drexel University in Philadelphia was found dead in her sorority house on Monday, ABC News reported.

Stephanie Ross, a sophomore majoring in mechanical engineering, was discovered unresponsive by her Phi Mu housemates and transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

Though her official cause of death has not been determined, a school official said they believe she died from meningitis. The university also said they are "working closely with the Philadelphia Department of Public Health to take all necessary precautions."

Antibiotics will also be available at the student health center for anyone that was in close contact with Ross. Anyone who feels they may have symptoms -- including high fever, severe headache, lethargy, neck stiffness, or sensitivity to light -- is urged to contact the center at (215) 220 - 4700.

"The Drexel community's thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends. The University is in contact with her parents during this difficult time," the statement read.

Additionally, counseling services are available to all members of the faculty and student body. They can be reached at (215) 895-1415, or at (215) 416-3337 outside of regular business hours, according to ABC News.

Drexel added the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life will also be extending their services to all affected by Ross' death.

Students, friends, and strangers took to social media to express their grief over the loss of Ross.

"God...where do I even begin... Stephanie Ross was the most fun loving, intelligent, and witty person..." one user wrote.

"RIP Stephanie. Feeling very fortunate I had the opportunity to be apart of her journey on the field. My prayers go out to the Ross family," another user tweeted.
