Columbia University has canceled its main commencement after a series of pro-Palestinian protests that have engulfed the school.

"Based on feedback from our students, we have decided to focus attention on our Class Days and school-level graduation ceremonies, where students are honored individually alongside their peers, and to forego the university-wide ceremony that is scheduled for May 15," Columbia officials said in a statement.

Individual schools at the university will hold their own ceremonies.

Pro-Palestinian protests have been going on for weeks on the campus. The students have demanding the university divest from companies that do business with Isreal.

Last week, NYPD officers in riot gear breached an academic hall that had been taken over by the protesters. More than 100 people were arrested on campus.

The University of Southern California previously canceled its main graduation ceremony while also allowing other commencement activities to continue.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
