New York Woman, Emma Duvoll, Wins $2 Million Lottery After Playing Fortune Cookie Numbers

A woman in New York won a $2 million lottery after using numbers she saw in a fortune cookie, the New York Daily News reported.

"It's unbelievable," said 75-year-old Emma Duvoll after receiving her winnings Thursday. "I plan to invest it and save it ... Maybe I'll go see family in Switzerland."

Duvoll, a retired deli owner, has two adult children, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She received her fortune cookie while dining at Sammy's Noodle Shop & Grill in Greenwich Village.

When collecting her prize, she decided to take the lump sum of $1,246,085.

"I don't play that often - once a month," she said. "I was home when I saw my numbers. I was very excited. 'That's crazy,' I thought."

Duvoll purchased her winning ticket at Hannaford Pharmacy in Pine Bush, New York.

Joining the lucky winner was Syeda Akther, a married mom of one who won a $5 million prize. Akther and her husband, Motion, said they might used the winnings to start their own pizzeria.

"Oh, and maybe college for him, too," her husband said, looking at their son, Kobbo.
