Jaylen Griffin, 12, was last seen leaving his house in August 2020. He planned to go to a grocery store, but never made it back home, police said.

Authorities arrested a man accused of firing shots at the Monday evening vigil marking what would have been the 16th birthday for missing Buffalo boy Jaylen Griffin.

Daevon Roberts, 25, allegedly shot at a car outside Buffalo's Central Terminal, police said, according to WIVB-TV. The gunfire caused a flat tire to the victim's car. No injuries were reported.

The relationship between Roberts and Jaylen's family remains unclear.

Roberts was arrested Tuesday and charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, first-degree reckless endangerment and third-degree criminal mischief, according to The Buffalo News.

It's unclear if he entered a plea to the charges.

Jaylen vanished during a walk to a corner store near his home in August 2020. He was 12 years old.

Earlier this month, his decomposed remains were found in an attic just five miles from where he disappeared.

A manner of death remains under investigation, but his case has been ruled a homicide, police said.

"It's been a long journey and I got what I was looking for... confirmation," Jaylen's father Brian Griffin said during the vigil, NY1 reported.

"He's not here physically, but he's here spiritually," Shirley Banks, Jaylen's grandmother, added. "We want to say 'Happy Birthday,' and we want to celebrate his life."
