A truck pulls an Airstream trailer on U.S. Route 89 near the Colorado River on June 23, 2021 in Marble Canyon, Arizona.

The New York pediatrician who was killed on her way to watch Monday's eclipse while riding in a moving Airstream trailer was violating the company's safety guidelines and state law, according to a report Tuesday.

Dr. Monika Woroniecka, 58, tumbled out of the trailer and hit her head on the shoulder of westbound state Route 12E in upstate Brownville, New York, around 3 p.m. on Saturday, the New York State Police said in a statement that day.

Airstream told the New York Post that its trailers "are not designed to carry passengers while in motion."

"The safety protocol detailed in Airstream's operating manuals and shared on Airstream's website advises owners that they cannot tow an Airstream with people inside," the company added.

New York state also prohibits towing passengers in a "house coach trailer," the Post said.

Woroniecka's husband, Robert Woroniecki, 59, was behind the wheel of a Dodge pickup truck that was towing the trailer, according to the state police.

A state police spokesperson, Sgt. Jack Keller, told HNGN on Tuesday that an investigation was continuing but that no charges were anticipated.

Witnesses traveling behind the trailer told the state police they saw Woroniecka briefly hang onto its side door after the wind caused the door to swing open.

Worniecka's daughter Helena was riding in the newly purchased trailer with her at the time and also saw the horrific scene unfold, the Post reported Monday.

The family was reportedly traveling from its home in Stony Brook, on Long Island, to an Airbnb rental in Cape Vincent, New York, near the Canadian border.

"They were going upstate to watch the solar eclipse," a neighbor who gave her name as Maria told the Post.
Maria also said the couple bought the 2024 trailer just two months ago.

Shortly before the deadly mishap, the family stopped for ice cream at a Stewart's convenience store, after which Woroniecka and her daughter decided to ride in the trailer for the final 20 minutes of their journey, according to the state police.
