Former President Donald Trump complains about a recent court appearance. Most voters disagree with his claim that he should be immune from prosecution.

Donald Trump's former attorney John Eastman has officially been disbarred for his attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

Eastman is no longer "eligible to practice law," said a notification by the State Bar Association of California that appeared on its website Tuesday. It dated the determination to Saturday, March 30.

The action followed a recommendation by attorney disciplinary Judge Yvette Roland last Wednesday that Eastman's law license be put on "involuntary inactive" status. Her opinion was forwarded to the California Supreme Court for review.

The state Bar also noted felony charges that Eastman is facing in Georgia concerning his efforts to impact the presidential election there.

Roland determined in a 128-page ruling that "Eastman failed to uphold his primary duty of honesty and breached his ethical obligations by presenting falsehoods to bolster his legal arguments."

He also "exhibited gross negligence by making false statements about the 2020 election without conducting any meaningful investigation or verification of the information he was relying upon," she added.

The judge rejected Eastman's claims that he believed that baseless claims of election fraud were true. Roland called Eastman's perspective "willful blindness that is tantamount to Eastman's actual knowledge that the allegations regarding hidden ballots were false."

Eastman's attorney said after Roland's opinion was issued that Trump's former lawyer believed he was doing his job, and that he needs to earn money to fight his upcoming Georgia trial.

Eastman wrote memos to Trump after his election defeat suggesting that votes by legitimate electors be tossed out and that fake electors be submitted to Congress instead by then-Vice President Mike Pence.

Witnesses testified that Eastman also made false claims about the election in court and to Trump supporters on Jan. 6, 2021.
