An investigation is underway after authorities allege a California teenager died when she allegedly grabbed a deputy's gun and shot herself.

The victim, identified only as a Hispanic female juvenile, knocked on the door of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office in Industry, California, Sunday evening, according to authorities.

Deputies opened the door and the teen lunged at one officer, wrestling their gun out of their holster.

A struggle ensued and the girl shot herself, the sheriff's office said. She was pronounced dead on the scene. No deputies were injured during the incident.

Earlier in the day, deputies responded to a family disturbance involving the teen.

The investigation remains ongoing.
