Fans of the decades-spanning James Bond franchise may have just found out who thier new leading man is, as Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been offered the iconic role of 007, according to a report.

The Marvel films actor has been "formally offered the job," according to the Sun newspaper.

He would replace Daniel Craig who starred in the previous five films in the long-running franchise.

The paper cited an unnamed source saying the contract is on the table awaiting his signature and "Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days."

The next film starring the 007 spy will be the 26th in the series. It is expected to begin filming this year

Other actors who were reportedly considered included Cillian Murphy, Idris Elba, Henry Cavill and James Norton.

Taylor-Johnson has not publicly commented on the report but last week told reporters, "I find it charming and wonderful that people see me in that role. I take it as a great compliment," the New York Post reported

The original James Bond was Sean Connery who starred in Dr. No in 1962.

Another James Bond actor just had some legal problems.

Pierce Brosnan pleaded guilty last week to illegally entering protected thermal areas of Yellowstone National Park.

The "Goldeneye" actor, 70, was issued citations for walking thermal areas within Yellowstone Canyon and "violating closures and use limits."

Unlike his famous character, British agent 007, he was less than stealthy, caught after he posted pictures of the trek online.
