Saturday evening marks the 139th running of the Kentucky Derby. The 1.25-mile race at Churchill Downs starts at 6:24 EDT.
Orb, the Florida Derby winner, is the 7-2 morning-line favorite, according to the Associated Press. Verrazano, still unbeaten, follows as the 4-1 favorite. Goldencents, whose trainer Doug O'Neill won the Derby last year, is the third choice at 5-1.
History can also be made today. If Oxbow or Will Take Charge finish first, D. Wayne Lukas, 77, would become the oldest trainer to ever win.
A win by Goldencents would make Doug O'Neill the first trainer since 1997-98 to win the Derby twice in a row; a Goldencents wins would also make Kevin Krigger the first black jockey to win the Derby since 1902. Louisville head coach and NCAA champion, Rick Pitino, owns a stake in the thoroughbred.
If Mylute finishes first, Rosie Napravnik becomes the first female jockey to ever win the Derby.
Temperatures will be in the mid-60s with an 80 percent chance of rain. Over 160,000 people are expected to attend.
The purse is $2,199,800, with $1,439,800 going to the winner.
NBC will televise the Derby on Saturday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
