A Halloween tragedy happened in Washington after a kid was mauled by a dog. What's worse about this incident is that the animal was actually a pet of the child's family.

The Spokane Police Department (SPD) confirmed the dog attack, saying that they were informed by the family on Tuesday, Oct. 31. Here are other details the law enforcement officials shared with the public.

Police tape is seen in front of a police vehicle as Manuel Oliver displays a banner calling on government officials to prioritize gun violence prevention from a construction crane near the White House in Washington, DC, on February 14, 2022. Oliver's son Joaquin Oliver was killed in the Parkland School shooting four years ago today.

According to Fox News' latest report, the young kid was viciously attacked by his family's pet on Halloween night. SPD officials said that the incident happened in a north Spokane residence.

They received a call regarding the animal attack at around 8:00 p.m. on Oct. 31. When cops arrived, they saw that a child was attacked by a family's dog.

"SPD responded to the report of an animal attack at a residence in the 900 block of E Walton Ave. Officers arrived and discovered a small child had been attacked by the family's dog," said the Spokane Police Department via its official website.

SPD added that after seeing the kid's situation, they immediately began rendering aid. The police department further stated that the care was transferred to SFD and AMR.

Unfortunately, the kid succumbed to his injuries despite the heavy efforts of the first responders. Meanwhile, the dog also died because family members tried to protect the kid, resulting in severe injuries to their pet.

Police officials said that they were ordered by the family to euthanize the dog on the scene since the animal was already beyond help.

"At this time, there does not appear to be any criminality involved in the incident, rather it appears this was a tragic accident," explained SPD.

It added that the incident happened within the victim's house and wasn't related to trick-or-treating activities. The Spokane Police Department is still working with the medical examiner's office.

Officials promised that more information about the victim will soon be released once the medical investigation is completed.

Experts say that Halloween is a fun time for many children. But, it may be an unpleasant day for dogs and other pets.

This is because the loud noise and other activities can frighten them, leaving them no choice but to respond in one of two ways; either escape or aggression.

There are numerous reasons why the Halloween celebration can trigger pets. These include Halloween costumes, which dogs and other animals don't understand.

Costumes, especially scary ones, can frighten them or anger them. Another thing that can trigger animal aggression during Halloween is the different scent they smell whenever other people knock or ring the door to ask for trick-or-treats.

These are just some of the reasons why Halloween is a stressful time for many pets. You can click this link to learn more.
