Alec Baldwin To Guest Star As Journalist On "Law & Order: SVU"

Alec Baldwin, who makes a point to let the world know about his hatred for the media, has snagged a guess role on NBC's "Law & Order: SVU" as a journalist named "Jimmy MacArthur."

Baldwin, who this week announced he was quitting the public life, will play a "controversial New York newspaper columnist who questions the SVU squad's motives during the investigation of a potential hate crime/rape case," Entertainment Weekly reported Wednesday.

The episode, which airs on Wednesday, March 19, is rumored to feature Baldwin's character getting into an altercation with the show's star, "Sergeant Olivia Benson," Entertainment Weekly reported.

The news of Baldwin's guest role comes four days after he wrote a 5,284 word article in New York Magazine titled "Good-bye, Public Life." The "30 Rock," star said he despises the media and wishes to leave New York City.

It appears Baldwin changed his mind.

The episode with Baldwin is the first one in the series to be directed by Mariska Hargitay, who plays "Sergeant Benson."

"New York City has had a long history of high profile and controversial newspaper columnists, whose influence extends beyond the newsroom," Warren Leight, the show's executive producer, said in a press release obtained by Entertainment Weekly. "In our story, 'Jimmy Mac's' reporting interferes with the investigation, which has a ripple effect when the case goes to trial. We couldn't ask for a better actor for Mariska to work with in her directorial debut. Their chemistry on screen is palpable," Leight said.

The upcoming episode is going to be jam-packed with other celebrities besides Baldwin. Questlove from the Roots is set to appear as a corpse, which he once told Us Weekly he always wanted to do. Katie Couric will also be in the episode, "playing herself as a talk show host who quizzes MacArthur about the headline grabbing case," according to Entertainment Weekly.
