President Joe Biden's largest allocation within the package is over $61 billion for Ukraine. This significant support comes from Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, which has already seen the US provide substantial security assistance amounting to $44 billion.
The aid to Ukraine is aimed at helping the nation defend itself against external threats and regain stability. Another prominent aspect of the funding proposal is the $14.3 billion allocated for Israel, which is currently in conflict with Hamas following a terrorist attack in October.
This funding is intended to enhance Israel's air and missile defense systems, including the Iron Dome, and provide humanitarian assistance to the region. The request also includes $2 billion for Taiwan and Indo-Pacific security, recognizing the growing regional tensions, especially as China asserts its territorial claims over Taiwan.
Humanitarian assistance, totaling a little over $9 billion, is part of the package, demonstrating the US's commitment to providing support in global conflict zones and addressing humanitarian crises. In addition to international assistance, the White House's proposal invests approximately $50 billion in the US defense industry.
