The member of a Christian metal band has pleaded guilty to participating in a murder-for-hire plan.
As I Lay Dying singer Tim Lambesis of Carlsbad submitted his official plea in a California court this Tuesday, stating that he had, in fact tried to commission a hit on his ex-wife Meggan.
Lambesis, who was first taken into police custody in May of last year, will serve a jail sentencing of about nine years, according to a clerk of the court who spoke with NBC San Diego.
The 32-year-old musician pleaded guilty to the charges against him, which included solicitation of another to commit murder and conspiracy to commit a crime.
Lambesis was arrested at a bookstore in Oceanside when he reportedly asked an undercover cop to take a hit out on his then-wife Meggan, 10 News reported.
Prosecutors during the pretrial said that the rock singer also asked a personal trainer at his gym whether he knew anybody who could take Meggan's life.
"He wanted to know if maybe I could find someone to do it for him," trainer Brett Kimball testified.
Deputy District Attorney Claudia Grasso said Lambesis later met with the undercover who he thought was a hit man to seal the deal.
The agent, under the fake name "Red," asked Lambesis whether he wanted to get rid of his wife or not.
"I don't want to see her ever again," Lambesis reportedly replied. Red then asked if the singer wanted his wife of eight years dead, and he replied, "Yes, that's exactly what I want."
Lambesis then gave the agent an envelope with $1,000 in cash, the address of his wife's residence, codes for the gates, pictures of her, and a schedule detailing the exact days he'd have the kids in his care.
Lambesis told the court on Tuesday that he wanted to kill his ex-wife because she was slated to receive about 60 percent of his salary, and he wouldn't be able to bring their 4-year-old, 8-year-old and 10-year-old on tour with him.
Meggan Lambesis originally filed for divorce in September 2012, after Tim became so "obsessed with bodybuilding" that he started reportedly neglecting their children.
