Salma Hayek's Brother Sami Involved in Los Angeles Car Accident, Male Passenger Dead from Crash

Award-winning actress Salma Hayek's younger brother was involved in a car accident on Sunday that left one male passenger dead.

40-year-old Sami Hayek sustained injuries and was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital immediately after his vehicle veered into the path of an approaching Toyota Tacoma.

According to Los Angeles Police Department officials, Sami was headed east on Sunset Boulevard in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Holmby Hills just before 5 p.m. when he reportedly lost control of his 2006 Ford GT, the New York Daily News reported.

The male passenger driving with Sami was pronounced dead on-site. He reportedly was hit with "major" blunt force trauma to his entire body. Although the deceased man's identity hasn't yet been released, authorities did say he was a 43-year-old Mexico resident.

Officials are waiting to notify the man's family, and will publicize his name thereafter.

Sami himself was wounded on his head, and also suffered several broken ribs.

The driver of the 2011 white pickup truck was reportedly named Alvin Gomez. The 20-year-old victim's foot was broken, and he told officers on the scene that he was experiencing extreme body pain.

Most of the impact in the accident occurred on the passenger's side of the sports car.

Law enforcement officials said the accident was under investigation, for the details of the crash are still unclear.

Sami, who lives in Los Angeles with his wife Daniela Villegas Hayek, works as a furniture designer for the likes of Lenny Kravitz, Brad Pitt, and Salma's husband Francois-Henri Pinault, a luxury business tycoon.

Salma and Sami Hayek were raised in Coatzacoalcos, located in the Mexican state of Veracruz, where their father once tried running for mayor.

47-year-old Hayek starred in such movies as "Frida," "Volver," and also guest starred for four years on NBC's "30 Rock."
