According to Fox News' latest report, the patriotism of Americans has been declining for the past few years. Statistics showed that adults who are proud of being American are decreasing.

Some of them are even starting to view traditional symbols, such as the American flag, negatively; saying they are controversial.

In June, a Gallup poll revealed that only 38% of adult U.S. residents were extremely proud of their nationality and country.

This means that more than 68% were unpatriotic. Because of this, many experts are now becoming concerned.

Fox News contributor Kellyanne Conway is one of them. She explained that the declining patriotism in the United States is real and troubling, especially among young Americans.

"It's especially true among younger people who don't seem to have that same connection with what binds us together as Americans or patriotism or religious adherence than perhaps their parents and certainly their grandparents' generations," she explained.

Conway claims that individualism is partially to blame for the negative patriotism trend happening in the American nation.

She explained that the rise of individualism makes people feel more comfortable in doing things alone.

Yeonmi Park, a North Korean defector, also believes that individualism affects America's patriotism. She explained that Americans are now more isolated; claiming they are in their own bubble.

Individualism Vs. Patriotism

North Texas Daily explained that individualism and patriotism have been debated in society for the past years.

Individualism is when people think they can live on their own and do whatever they want in life. It is the idea of being a sovereign being; free from control and oppression.

Meanwhile, patriotism is the feeling of being attached and committed to your country. This means that you are proud of your nationality and always want to participate in the major happenings.
