Instagram parent company Meta is set to release Threads on July 6, a potential rival to Twitter, the fledgling social media app run by Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

According to Engadget's latest report, Threads gained over 10 million new users within the first seven hours after its launch.

Mark Zuckerberg even boasted about his app's achievement on the new social media platform. "10 million sign-ups in seven hours," said Meta's CEO via his official Threads post.

Zuckerberg's announcement generated more than 140,000 likes and over 27,400 replies.

In the comment section, a Threads user even mentioned Elon Musk, saying that Mark Zuckerberg gains one win while the Tesla CEO is still 0.

Another fan said that the scoreboard will soon be 2-0 once Zuckerberg beats Elon Musk in their most-awaited cage fight.

As of writing, the new Threads app is already available across the globe. However, Europeans are still waiting for the app's rollout in Europe.

Why Users Are Flocking to Threads

Facebook owner Meta's new Threads app, meant to compete with Twitter, was available for pre-order on mobile app stores on iPhone and Android operating systems on July 5, 2023.

One of the main reasons why many users are flocking to Threads is the new limitations imposed by Twitter.

Recently, Elon Musk made huge headlines after he announced that verified, unverified, and new accounts will have limited access to the platform's posts.

Aside from Twitter's new limitations, Meta is using an effective advertising strategy to make Threads more popular.

Since Twitter's competitor is connected to Instagram and built on the same platform, more users can easily access it.

How To Sign Up

Signing up for Threads is a piece of cake. All you need to do is follow these steps:

  1. Since Threads is already available (except in Europe), you can just go to the official Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. Search for the app and install it on your device.
  3. Once the download is complete, just sign up using your Instagram account.
  4. After that, you can now start creating your Threads profile.

Meta explained that all the actions you do on your Threads account will not affect your IG profile. To learn more about this new social media app, you can click here
