Sony's new PlayStation 5 (PS5) handheld gaming device is finally seeing the light of day later this year.

The Japanese tech firm shed light on some details gamers could expect from Project Q.

Sony New PlayStation Handheld To Launch This 2023

Sony is set to launch their latest PlayStation handheld console later this year.

According to a report by CNET, Sony is preparing to unleash a new PlayStation handheld that focuses on game streaming capabilities. With the upcoming gaming device, you can enjoy your favorite PS5 gaming titles portably without compromising quality or performance.

The Japanese tech giant teased the long-awaited handheld gaming device, which sports the same look as the PS5 DualSense controller. What sets it apart is its massive display in the middle.

Sony Interactive Entertainment President Jim Ryan confirmed that the upcoming handheld device is launching in the next several months, as per The Verge.

The PlayStation boss says, "We will launch a dedicated device that enables you to stream any game from your PS5 console using Remote Play over Wi-Fi."

Gizmodo reports that some PlayStation Vita fans have long been waiting for its next generation. But despite that, Sony decided to move forward with a handheld gaming device, which works a lot like the offerings these days, such as Razer Edge and Logitech G Cloud. The two options focus primarily on game streaming rather than as a standalone gaming console like Nintendo Switch.

Sony Project Q: What We Know So Far

The Sony Interactive Entertainment chief executive, Ryan, disclosed that the PlayStation handheld is still in the works, internally named Project Q.

Although the specification and other features are still undisclosed, the PlayStation big boss revealed some details about the upcoming device.

One of the most intriguing aspects of Sony's upcoming handheld is its strong emphasis on cloud gaming. With advancements in streaming technology, the PlayStation handheld is expected to leverage the power of the cloud, allowing gamers to access a vast library of PS5 games on demand.

In terms of design, it flaunts the same white and black look of the PS5. The controls heavily borrow their style from the DualSense controller. However, Ryan says the handheld rocks an 8 inches HD display in the middle. The LCD screen runs games up to 1080p resolution, leaving 4K behind. Sony confirms it also delivers a standard 60 frames per second (fps).

According to The Verge, PS5 gamers could try Remote Play, which streams games from the gaming console, using their iPhone or Android device, as well as Windows PC or Mac. If you have been using this feature, that is precisely how the upcoming handheld works. But it offers additional functionalities for gaming.
