Fully AI-Generated Movies is Coming Soon, Marvel Director Joe Russo Predicts

According to Forbes, generative AI creates a growing concern for creatives as it dabbles in content creation, such as curating music, photos, and even videos. This time, the Marvel director, Joe Russo, shared his surprising take on the growing popularity of generative AI.

When Colliber asked Russo when he thinks movies generated by AI are coming, he told the publication that it might get the shimmer of the spotlight in merely "two years." In that period, the "Avengers: Endgame" co-director believes that AI tech could already "actually create" movies.

In other words, in a couple of months, we might start seeing a new form of movies that goes beyond the tide of traditional filmmaking. Fully AI-generated films are likely to debut in this decade, at least according to the renowned co-director of various blockbuster Marvel movies.

AI on Filmmaking

The co-director of Marvel's "Avengers: Infinity War," one of the Russo brothers, expressed that AI might soon play a huge role in creating movies. He says the AI technology might help filmmakers use it to their advantage.

The American producer says that emerging tech should primarily help in storytelling. He notes that we could "obviously use it to engineer storytelling and change storytelling."

Besides these possibilities, Russo also raised an idea that seems like straight out of a "Black Mirror" episode or sci-fi dystopian in general. He thinks that with the help of AI tools, we can soon create stories that are "constantly evolving."

He shared a scenario, wherein AI technology is readily available in a streaming service. Users may come home and curate a fully generated movie using a few prompts depending on their mood.

Russo gave an example that prompts the AI to create a movie that stars a photoreal avatar of the late American actress Marilyn Monroe alongside the user.

Furthermore, it should allow users to choose the genre of the movie, which for instance, the Marvel director says is a romantic comedy. You may also adjust how long it goes.

Futurism reports that Russo further predicts that TVs in the future might soon feature top-notch processing power, which supports such generative AI technology that "renders anything in real-time."
