TikTok Generative AI Avatars Secretly in Works, Leak Reveals

Leak suggests 'TikTok Plus' might launch soon.

TikTok is working on a new generative AI avatar creator, allowing users to personalize their profiles on another level as it incorporates a new burgeoning technology.

The upcoming AI-generation profile picture feature saw the light of day in a recent leak, which social media consultant, Matt Navarra, shared on Twitter. He posted images and videos of the new personalization function that TikTok is working on behind the scenes.

TikTok Generative AI Avatars Leaked

TikTok paved the way to create a trend when it pioneered the vertical scrolling format. It goes against the tide of the typically swiping layout that Snapchat popularized years ago as Stories, which Instagram and Facebook heavily adopted.

The two Meta-owned apps soon embraced the new trend that TikTok popularized by introducing Reels on both platforms.

This time, it looks like TikTok is brewing something new, which other giant social networks have yet to introduce, AI-generated avatars.

According to The Verge, the upcoming feature looks similar to how the Lensa app of Prisma Labs works. There is a striking resemblance on the face of it. However, the recent leak reveals it is a new tool from the TikTok app.

Social media expert, Navarra, shared some screenshots and screen recordings of the new AI tools that the Chinese social network is quietly working on. Once the new feature is up and running, it should deliver a generative AI avatar creator straight from the TikTok app. In other words, users no longer have to download a third-party app to produce an AI-created profile picture.

On top of that, TikTok might soon be flooded with various AI-generated avatars once its users start using it. So do not be surprised if you start seeing a couple of generative profile photos when scrolling on your "For You" feed.

How Does TikTok's AI-Generated Profile Pictures Work

The recent leak not only revealed what TikTok is secretly working on, but it also showed how it could potentially work once it rolls out.

Gizmodo reports that Navarra disclosed that the AI avatar creator would have some limits at first. TikTok users may only produce their generative profile picture using it at least once a day.

For it to work, the social media expert says that TikTok requires users to upload multiple images of themselves. The tool needs roughly three to 10 photos to produce a whopping 30 avatars right off the bat. Before proceeding, the creator lets users pick at least five various art styles depending on their tastes.

Social Media Today notes that the leak also hints that TikTok is also working on a subscription platform, apart from the new AI feature, amid the emergence of Twitter Blue and Snapchat Plus. It is still unclear what the potential paid service offers.
