Jada Pinkett Smith's Red Table Talk hasn't found a new home since Meta canceled it. Mina Lefevre, head of the original content group for Meta, is moving away from expensive original programming and will focus on developing content for Virtual reality (VR) viewers via Meta Horizon Worlds.

What's Happening at Meta?

Meta is laying off over 20,000 staff, in which the first wave was announced in 2022. Facebook Watch was once a mix of unscripted and scripted programming but has since shifted to unscripted.

Meta is also facing various controversies, including accusations of fostering hate speech, misinformation on its platform, and concerns over its impact on mental health and privacy.

The company has made various efforts to address these issues, such as implementing new policies and investing in content moderation. Still, these efforts have been met with mixed reactions from users and critics. Meta's future remains uncertain as it navigates these challenges and works to reshape its image and offerings.

In addition to the layoffs and controversies, Meta is also facing increased scrutiny from government regulators. In December 2021, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filed a lawsuit against Meta, alleging that it has maintained an illegal monopoly in social networking. The case is still ongoing.

Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has acknowledged these challenges and stated his commitment to addressing them. He recently announced plans for a new "metaverse" platform that aims to create immersive virtual experiences for users while addressing concerns around privacy and security.

Despite these efforts, some critics remain skeptical of Meta's ability to effectively address its issues without significant changes in leadership or business practices. As such, the company faces a critical moment as it seeks to rebuild trust with users and stakeholders alike while staying competitive in an increasingly crowded tech landscape.

Despite these challenges, some experts see the potential for growth and innovation within Meta's ecosystem. For example, proponents believe that virtual reality technology could revolutionize industries like healthcare or education by enabling immersive experiences that are not possible through traditional media channels.

Ultimately though, much will depend on how effectively Mark Zuckerberg leads his team at Meta through this difficult period. If he is able to address concerns around privacy while continuing investment in new technologies like VR/AR/MR headsets (e.g., Oculus Quest 2), then there may be hope yet for this embattled social network giant.
