A chilling video reveals when a shooter opened fire in broad daylight and fatally shot a 17-year-old budding rapper, according to his pals.

NYC Victim Shot Dead Near High School

In the shocking video, the offender can be seen striding out of a deli on Saratoga Avenue, drawing his pistol from his belt, and firing the fatal shot that killed Bassett, who was unarmed.

The footage, which the NYPD provided, shows the assailant fleeing down the street after the 5 p.m. assault; he is still at large. According to reports, police hope that DNA extracted from a bottle the shooter discarded at the crime site may assist in identifying him.

A neighbor who did not wish to be recognized recalled an event that occurred a few weeks ago when he claimed that youths armed with firearms pursued Bassett's elder sister into the house and fired bullets at it.

Jose Rivera, who lives across the street from the shooting scene, witnessed Bassett's dying moments when he ran outside because one gunfire damaged his car. The suspect is a boy in his late teens or early twenties with a dark complexion, medium frame, black hair, and brown eyes, according to the police.

He was last seen wearing black Nike sneakers, leggings, a black jacket, a black hooded sweatshirt, and a black face mask. Per NY Post, the incident occurred one day after an outbreak of gang-related violence in Upper Manhattan wounded three individuals, including two high school students, with gunshot wounds.

Similarly, on Tuesday, a New York City teen was shot two blocks from a high school on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Police say they captured the perpetrator as he attempted to flee in a yellow cab, Fox News reported.

Police stated that officers responded to a complaint of a gunshot at West 68th Street and Amsterdam Avenue shortly before 10 a.m. NYPD authorities told reporters at a news conference that four or five boys were involved in a physical altercation when a 19-year-old man produced a gun and shot a 17-year-old male numerous times in the abdomen.

The injured adolescent fled two streets to his high school, where he contacted 911. Police said the incident did not take place at the high school. According to authorities, medical professionals took the teen to New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center in stable condition. Tuesday afternoon, following the adolescent's operation, police planned to talk with him.

Around one block away from the incident, the suspect was captured in a yellow taxicab, according to the police. The 19-year-old suspect had three past arrests, including two for drug sales in 2023 and an armed robbery with a handgun accusation from 2021. The police said that he was out on bond for the second incident. According to reports, the incident occurred near Martin Luther King High School, one of several high schools on the same street.
