Abusive Parent Starves 12-Year-Old Child to Death

Authorities in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, had arrested the parents of the 12-year-old boy neglecting their son horribly. Adam and Jennifer Duhon were apprehended in October last year after the shocking death, reported Meaww.

His foster parents were charged with second-degree murder resulting from malnourishment, and he was about 28 pounds when he died.

A press statement from Jeff Davis Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Chris Ivey mentions that an autopsy done has revealed the child was not fed enough. But the charge of homicide was retained, and the boy's neighbors did not see the boy outside. They never knew the victim's exact age, as mentioned by KATC.

A neighbor told KPLC-TV that the boy didn't look his age and was half the expected size. He added the mom and dad hid what happened in their residence. It was shocking when they learned he was underfed to death and looked like a five-year-old.

The resident says the Duhons have arrived and stayed in Cameron Parish after Hurricane Laura and Delta forced them out. They settle on property owned by the family.

Adoptive Parents Treat Brogan Duhon Horribly

He was adopted by the Duhons on February 2012 when the agency dealing with adoptions lost jurisdiction. In August 2015, Brogan was under investigation by the child welfare agency. The abuse was verified, and he only got services till March 2016.

It got worse as the adoptive parents did not allow the boy to attend school, but he was homeschooled. The neighbors noticed that the victim wasn't schooling when all kids got on the bus each morning. They wondered why the guardian denied interaction with other kids which perplexed them. One resident said parcels for the Duhons got delivered by mistake last June 2022.

Neighbors Doubted Something Was Odd with the Duhons

They were curious about why Brogan was never seen for a long time. Neighbors who barely saw the boy remarked that he would ask for food. Roxanne Zaunbrecher revealed the boy was locked up and would not eat for days, cited KSLA. She once fed him when he was at her door, but the foster mom came afterward and asked if the police were called. She never contacted the police or child services and only gave the starved boy some food.

The adoptive couple was never charged with child neglect or abuse in the parishes where they lived. If it was not for Jeff Davis deputies on a welfare check that revealed the parents did not report the crime for two months. Sheriff Ivy Woods stated that horrific abuse by the Duhons was hidden until it was too late.

She added no one wanted to cause trouble, but it ended in the 12-year-old boy dying from a horrendous crime. She expressed anger at what the Duhons did, and passively allowing the abuse was intolerable.
