A Hawaii family looking desperately for a missing pregnant woman from Maui revealed this week the emotional and physical toll the disappearance has caused.
Nearly 70 members of family, friends and volunteers have been on the hunt for 27-year-old Carly Scott since Feb. 10 - the day her mother officially reported her missing, according to the Associated Press.
Mother Kimberlyn Scott told the Maui News that the family has decided to take "a breather," on the search for redhead Carly, who is said to be five months pregnant.
The search group spent days walking, riding all-terrain vehicles and motorcycles around Haiku and Hana looking for the missing mother-to-be. Wielding maps of the island with search dogs in tow, the crew pored over the area tirelessly daily.
A drone was donated to the search group to help photograph and take video of inaccessible areas like ravines and cliffs.
But as the days wore on, members of the family grew weary, AP reported.
Carly's sister Brooke Scott said her body was ready to give out due to pure exhaustion, stress and worry.
"I really need to get some sleep," friend Josh Berlin told the Associated Press. Berlin's reportedly been manning the phones, text messages and reports during the search.
Wailuku police found the scorched remains of Carly's sport utility vehicle last Friday, but the owner of the car was nowhere to be found.
Lt. William Juan of the Maui Police told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser that law enforcement officials found the shell of the SUV at Peahi, close to the "Jaws" shore break.
Carly was last seen at her sister's house in Haiku. She reportedly gave her former boyfriend Steven Capobianco a ride to Keanae to help him get his truck fixed. She then drove behind him on the way back to Haiku.
Capobianco said he does see why people might consider him a suspect in the case, and that police have begun bringing him in for questioning.
