Nine people were hospitalized after dangerous carbon monoxide levels were detected at a hotel near the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport on Sunday.
According to Anne Arundel County fire fighters who spoke with CBS, officials were still unclear of the gas leak's source at the Westin Baltimore Washington Airport hotel.
Dozens of people inside the hotel were evacuated once officials detected the unusually high levels.
Of the nine people who were hospitalized at the University of Maryland Medical Center, four had to be transferred to hyperbaric chambers.
"The call first came out as a medical emergency for an employee," an unidentified fire official told CBS. "The staff there suspected that there might be carbon monoxide poison and requested additional resources. And once additional resources came in, we ran the meters and found out there was a high level of carbon monoxide poisoning."
Hotel authorities pumped air into the building while investigators continued looking for the source of the leak.
Sixty-four rooms were booked at the hotel, CBS reported. The occupants of those rooms were moved to a different hotel pending the fire department's investigation.
