New York Fashion Designer Michele Savoia Found Dead in Hudson River, Coroner to Determine Homicide or Suicide

New York fashion designer Michele Savoia's body was found in the Hudson River on Sunday.

A coroner is slated to perform an autopsy on Savoia's remains to determine the cause of death, according to a report by NY1.

55-year-old Savoia, who lived on a houseboat at the Chelsea Piers, was found in the water at Pier 59 this past weekend, just as most designers wrapped up their shows for New York Fashion Week.

Savoia was last seen in the early hours of Thursday while leaving swanky Chelsea club "Marquee."

It's unclear whether Savoia's death was a homicide or a suicide at this point, but according to NYC police, it doesn't look like the designer was involved in any foul play.

Friends and loved ones became concerned about Savoia's whereabouts when he didn't show up for a Valentine's Day dinner.

The 55-year-old owned a boutique on Essex Street at one time, but recently closed the doors to his shop, NY1 reported.

A couple of Savoia's close comrades, who asked to remain anonymous, expressed their grief and shock at the news.

"I have a clothing store just down the street from his old spot and he was always very welcoming, you know, invite me into his shop, I'd check out his new stuff," one friend and neighbor told NY1. "He's just such a great guy, and yeah, he's going to be sorely missed."

"Just a fantastic guy," the other friend agreed. "So sad when everybody heard the news about him. But people like that, what are you going to say? They come around once."
