Greta Gerwigs bagged the lead role in "How I Met Your Dad", a spinoff of CBS' "How I Met Your Mother". The show will be from a female perspective.
Greta Gerwigs is all set to play the female version of Ted Mosby in the upcoming "How I Met Your Mother" spinoff, titled "How I Met Your Dad," Hollywood Reporter confirmed.
The sitcom by Emily Spivey and HIMYM creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas will follow Sally (Greta) who is "a female Peter Pan who has never grown up and has no idea of where she's going in life." Unlike Ted Mosby (played by Josh Radnor), Sally has already walked down the aisle, but less than a year into the marriage she decides to split from her husband. Now she's looking for ever-lasting love with the help of her close friends and family.
While the pilot will film in Los Angeles, the series is expected to shoot in New York City, according to The Wrap. Carter Bays and Craig Thomas will be executive producers with Emily Spivey and Pamela Fryman. Fryman will direct the pilot.
Gerwings is best known for her role in "Frances Ha" which also earned her a Golden Globe nomination in the Best Actress category. Gerwig has been dating writer-director Noah Baumbach since late 2011. They worked together on his film "Greenberg" in 2010, and co-wrote "Frances Ha."
Reports have it if the pilot moves to series, Gerwings may be penning a few scenes for the script herself. The plot of the spin-off is described as a brand-new story with new characters and a new voice at its center.
