Meghan Markle has taken down any references to her canceled Netflix project from the Royal couple's official website.

The streaming giant has canceled several projects, including her animated series Pearl, as it tries to combat a fall in the number of subscribers.

The project, which also included Elton John's husband, David Furnish, had the Duchess of Sussex named as an executive producer.

All the project's information, however, has been removed from Meghan and Harry's websites, as reported by GB News.

Pearl tells the story of a little girl who was inspired by powerful women throughout history. When Meghan announced the animated show last summer, she said that it was about the heroine Pearl's "journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life's daily challenges."

In autumn 2020, Meghan and Harry launched Archewell Productions at Netflix to produce original documentaries and children's programs, with Pearl slated to be their debut animated series.

Netflix Subscription Woes

In 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a deal worth up to £112 million ($137 million) with the streaming behemoth. Meghan and Harry's plans to launch their shows have been hampered by Netflix's recent troubles.

Across all age categories, 28% of those aged 35 to 44 want to cancel, far more than the second biggest group, those aged 55 and older, who want to cancel with 21 %.

When questioned why they might consider canceling their paid television subscription, the most common response is the price.

The majority of people feel a paid TV subscription is too expensive (54%) and that they don't want to pay for content they never watch (28%).

Netflix announced in April that it had lost 200,000 customers in the previous quarter. Its shares dropped 35% after the company announced it projected to lose another 2 million customers in the coming quarter, per The Express.

Meghan Won't Give Up On Pearl

Despite the bad news, Meghan Markle is determined to seek a new platform to launch her cartoon series project, according to a report from The Sun.

LA insiders say that Meghan, 40, and her team at production company Archewell do not see the Netflix dump as the end of the road.

Meghan and Furnish "are reviewing the project to see where else it could find a home", according to sources.

They will pitch the show to other TV networks and streaming services, such as Apple and Amazon, since The Duke And Duchess Of Sussex's contract with Netflix allow the couple to sell any products that the streaming platform turns down.

A source told the media outlet,  "Meghan and Harry will not give up on taking Pearl to the screen," and the couple is "determined" not to waste "all the work and creative endeavors" they invested in the project.

It added that their standard deal with Netflix allows them "to pitch projects rejected by them to other outlets." Possible target platforms for Pearl are Apple and Disney Plus, which Harry and Meghan had worked with, respectively. Furnish also has established ties within the film and television industries.

After the decommissioning, the team is having a second look at the show concept to see what can be altered, according to a source, and there was a lot of excitement about Pearl and the optimism that its journey has not yet ended.
