Darryl Robinson, a former host on the Cooking Channel, was found dead in his Bedford-Stuyvesant apartment on Wednesday Feb. 5. According to the New York Post, Robinson was found around 12:30 a.m. laying face down on his bed.
A source told the newspaper that he was fully clothed. According to the Post, a friend close to the "Drink Up" host was concerned and asked police to enter the apartment. When the landlord couldn't get inside, Emergency Service Units had to force their way in.
Police told the Post that there was no evidence of drugs or drug paraphernalia in the apartment and foul play was not suspected. Family and friends told investigators that Robinson suffered from black-outs but the cause of death is still being investigated.
"At learning of this morning's sad news, our thoughts go out to Darryl Robinson's family & friends," the Cooking Channel tweeted on Feb. 5.
A neighbor told the Post that Robinson was a well-liked guy and he was always making donations to community functions.
"He was a real nice, cool guy," Mark Holmes said. "He always donated stuff to the block. We have a big block association. He always participated in everything."
"I always liked him. He had this old Green Regal, he was trying to bring it back. A two door Buick Regal about a '79, '78," he added.
Robinson, who was known for mixing up new cocktails, tweeted on Jan. 30 that he was creating a new drink for the Super Bowl. He posted a copy of the recipe to his personal website on Feb. 1. Besides hosting "Drink Up" on the Cooking Channel, he also made guest appearances on "The Wendy Williams Show" and "Access Hollywood."
