Alexandria Shooting Update: Police Hunt for Suspected Gunman Who Wounded Two, Lockdown on Nearby Schools Lifted

Police are on the hunt for a shooter who wounded two women after he opened fire at an Alexandria, Wash. home on Thursday.

Local law enforcement told the Washington Post that the suspected gunman is an "elderly white male with gray hair."

The suspect reportedly walked up to a home in the 2400 block of Ridge Road Drive at around 11:30, and knocked on the door. When a woman and her female caregiver came to answer, the gunman started shooting, according to Alexandria police department spokesperson Crystal Nosal.

Both of the victims were immediately transferred to a local medical facility. One of the wounded was in critical condition, while the other sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

It's unclear whether the shooter knew the residences of the Alexandria home. Police are still unsure of a motive, and the gunman is still at large, the Post reported.

Six schools in the immediate vicinity of the house were put on lockdown at about 11:30 a.m., while law enforcement checked out the scene.

As of 2 p.m., T.C. Williams High School, Charles Barrett Elementary School, George Mason Elementary School, Minnie Howard Campus, Matthew Maury Elementary School and Douglas MacArthur Elementary School were cleared and the lockdown was lifted.
